The Ryder Cup at Hazeltine quickly approaches and the European Team's picks were announced on Tuesday afternoon:
Martin Kaymer
Lee Westwood
Thomas Pieters
Knox can consider himself unfortunate to miss out, having had a great season and winning twice in America. Westwood is a close friend of Captain Clarke and someone who has performed well in the majors this year. Kaymer holed the winning putt at Medinah in an unforgettable comeback and continues to play consistently in Europe. Pieters has just won the Danish Open after finishing one place outside the medals in the Olympic Games in Rio this month.
Clarke has opted for experience in his picks for Hazeltine. Although Europe have a strong team, I feel they will have their work cut out to beat the Americans this year.
The Medway Trophy was held at Kings Hill on Sunday, 28 August. This competition involved nine local clubs each putting out three pairs to each play 36 holes of foursomes. The format was an aggregate team stableford over the day, with a maximum handicap allowance per player of 12. The Kings Hill team - Fraser Nicol and Andrew Drummond, Mark Garner and Michael Blanning, and Lee Gammon and Tony Ware (both of whom joined the club just this year) - came a close second behind the winners Mid Kent. Well done guys, it is great to see Kings Hill competing well in all county team events this year.
Congratulations to our Senior Team on winning the league for the second year in a row. It is great to see such good team spirit, commitment and desire to win. Team Captain David Lake had this to say:
"The best way to retain the trophy was to beat Rochester & Cobham. And that was what we did with a 5-1 victory. Congrats to all on a seriously good achievement. On now to the All Kent Final"
Best of luck guys, play well and enjoy the experience.
