The Captains' Charity Day was a huge success raising £6,000 and I know that everyone that I have spoken to had a great time. Well done to Les King, Andy Rogers, Neil Gates and Ken Staerck with their winning team score of 93 points. This was enough to edge out Steve Mallard, Jake Bacon, Bruce Candy and Chris Jones on 89 points in second place. A big well done to lady captain Gill Olke and club captain Dave Seely.
In addition, The Captains' Dinner is now fully subscribed. Could you please email Mel - fbmanager@kingshillgolf.co.uk - with any dietary requirements ASAP and ensure that you have paid your deposit too please. Please click here to see the menu.
Our very own summer matchplay events reached the finals this week. Well done to the winner and runners up below:
Murphy's Singles - Steve Philipou beat David Woodget 1up
Hogan Pairs - Deric Wood and Scott Tremble beat Bruce Candy and Nigel Bacon 1up
Seely Scratch - Danny Jones beat Steve Philipou
More success for our young guns as Maria Babadi played in Hampshire as part of a six girl team representing Kent. She scored 37 points and helped Kent win the Alresford Trophy, again. They beat seven other counties that were taking part. She also won her three rounds in a knockout and goes into the final at Ashford Golf Club on Sunday, 2 October. We wish her very good luck.
Goodbye to 'The King'
Arnold Palmer sadly passed away but his legacy as a true icon of the game will certainly live on. Labelled as the first real superstar of the game, it is said that 'The King' transcended the game of golf.
Palmer became the first major US superstar and went on to win seven Majors, including four Masters titles - and his rivalry with the 'Big Three' dominated golf.
Tributes have poured in, from players past and present, as well as from the US President. Jack Nicklaus said:
"He was more than a golfer or even great golfer. He was an icon. Arnold was someone who was a pioneer in his sport. He was the king of our sport and always will be."
With the final captain's pick confirmed this week, we are now ready for the main event! I think the American team looks very strong and the European team will have to play extremely well to keep up with them. Rory's return to form is a very encouraging sign and I think he will be the highest individual points scorer. As we have all seen, matchplay is a difficult game to predict so it could go either way.
