At the risk of being very boring – as evidenced in recent years you just cannot predict it! The weather and draw, for the first two days especially, can be massive. Based on recent form Tommy Fleetwood is a contender, I think we would all love to see a similar victory to that of Sergio Garcia at the Masters. Perhaps Poulter? Westwood? We do know that the TV coverage on Sky – headed up by Nick Dougherty - will be brilliant. Those of us without Sky at home are very welcome to enjoy the coverage in the clubhouse. In addition to his work with Sky Sports Golf coverage, Nick has also been a vital wheel in the cog at Lynx with regards to club design and the Boom Boom Iron Challenge, it is a great chance to test his work. Combine this with the Open Putting Competition to find the best putter in the club – even if you’re not playing Saturday just pop up to have a go at only £5 entry!

The Kent Vets League team have had mixed results over the past two matches with a 3 –2 win over Sittingbourne and a 3 –2 defeat to Sheerness.

Well done to the A team for their victory and hard luck to the B team following a narrow defeat.

It's not just about hitting the green…

If you really want to lower your scores this year it's important that you don’t just settle for hitting the green, but instead focus on hitting the right part to avoid three-putt territory. This will be a key consideration for the pros at Royal Birkdale this week, just take the 17th green for example:

THREE-PUTT TERRITORY

While aiming for the middle of the green is usually a safe bet, if the flag is on a tier an approach to the wrong level (red zone above) will often lead to a three putt.

TRUST YOUR CLUBS

Having faith in your clubs and knowing their yardages allows you to be confident and aggressive when you need to go at a flag that is hidden by a hazard or tier (green zone above).

Playing a new course isn't easy

A lot of golfers get excited about going to play at new courses - whether that's in club matches, invitation days or just a game with friends - but usually they go ill-prepared and find themselves struggling when it comes to judging new holes and hidden hazards.
