As the course continues to improve and the margins start to become finer with the thick rough and firm fairways leading to an increase in scores and difficulty, I thought it would be a good idea to use this week's newsletter to outline some key course management strategies that may help lower scores and eradicate those 5-minute ball searches.
As we all know there is no better feeling in golf than hitting the perfect drive that travels down the centre of the fairway, although I am sure many of you do this 99% of the time... The next time you're on the golf course try using a 3 wood when the driver isn't a necessity.
The extra loft and shorter shaft makes the "bad shot" less destructive and may help you to find more fairways and make more pars and birdies. On this note TaylorMade (who we have a demo day with July 3rd, book appointments here) have recently released a Mini Driver, combining the control of a 3 wood but the length of a driver. We have these in stock at the moment and from personal experience and that of General Manager Glen I can testify they are great clubs. You can find out more about the SLDR Mini on our website by clicking here.
As we all have noticed the greens are now becoming firmer and faster (due to a lot of good work from Barry and his team), this puts premium on your iron play. As I became aware this week, if you miss the green on the short side, you are really struggling to get the ball up and down and sometimes struggling to hit the green! Hitting the middle of the green and two putting is far less exciting than making birdies but sometimes far more effective!
The Junior Academy continues to go from strength to strength, producing players who are now playing in and winning National and European tournaments. The structure put in place by the coaches enables each player to improve via good technique and on course experience.
Summer coaching programme dates will be released at the end of this week for those interested please contact Mark in the Proshop.
