Captain's Charity 5 Club Challenge - 3rd March

This weekend sees the Captain's Charity 5 Club challenge. Always a fun event and making sure you pick the best 5 clubs for you can prove difficult. The clubs I would pick are - 3 wood, 6 iron, 9 iron, SW, putter.

A wide range covering all angles: 3 wood to cover tee shots and potentially second shots into par 5's, a long iron which can work for the par 3's a short iron for approach shots with a wedge for shots around the greens.

Golf Course update

The greenkeeping team have been hard at work this week preparing the course for the season ahead. Barry and the team have been spraying the greens with Aquatrols Ferrosol iron, Calcium and Potassium, helping to harden the turf against disease and strengthens the roots both of which are important for good quality greens all year round!

Course Maintenance

A reminder that 9 holes will be closed on Monday 4th March due to course maintenance. Depending on progress on the day there will be a switch in which 9 holes are open. Speak to the proshop for more detail.

75 yards? Up-and-down for me...

The majority of golfers know how far they hit their driver and irons with a full swing, but wedges require you to be a lot more accurate if you want to start shooting better scores. So, whilst it can be useful to know how far a full PW or LW goes, you'll benefit far more from dialling in your wedges so you can hit specific distances that you regularly find yourself with on the course.

Give yourself options

You'll notice that different swings with each wedge will result in yardages that overlap - see table above. This is important as it'll give you options when considering the conditions. For example, if you're facing a strong breeze, we'd suggest going up a club and utilising a shorter swing so the ball flies lower with less spin, helping it to penetrate through the wind.

Dial in with Callaway

We'd recommend having a wedge system of the same brand and model, so you remove any variables in feel and spin across wedges.

Be honest...
